The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) President, Eng. Moses Magogo has come out to laud the Uganda women national football team, the Crested Cranes despite their humiliating 4-1 loss to Tanzania’s Kilimanjaro Queens in the semifinals of the CECAFA Women championship.
“FUFA is impressed about the performance of the Uganda Crested Cranes. Qualifying to the semifinals was a big bonus itself. The team had a target of at least playing five games at this championship which has been fulfilled,” Eng. Moses Magogo is quoted on the federation’s website.
“This tournament has been beneficial through exposure of the players. Women football in the country is steadily on the rise,” the statement further read.
His remarks came just after the Crest Cranes’ loss that failed them to reach the finals of the seven team CECAFA women tournament that is being held for the first time in 30 years.
The Crested Cranes will now have to take on Ethiopia in the fight for the third place playoff match scheduled for Tuesday 20th September at 1:30 p.m at the FUFA technical center in Njeru, Jinja. On the same day at the same venue, the Kenyan Starlets will faceoff with Tanzania in the final at 3:30 p.m.
