The recently concluded inaugural music video awards, Club Music Video Awards (CMVA), this year’s biggest night in Ugandan music continues to receive showers of praise for the impressive organization crowned by a memorable night of befitting glitz and glamour.

Jasmine Dotiwala, a broadcaster, producer, director and columnist has expressed profound delight and appreciation to the organizers and the Ugandan entertainment fraternity.

In a message passed to yours truly, the London 360 news editor and former MTV base head, congratulated the “entire team” wishing all partners the best.

Jasmine is famous in Uganda media circles for her analysis of the state of Ugandan music videos which went viral and became a subject of public debate in local media.

While writing her experience as one of the judges of CMVAs, it read in part……”99% of all music videos seemed to have been brought straight from Jamaica, such is the passion Ugandans have for dancehall music. With full patois and dancehall moves, it was like judging a Caribbean set of acts as opposed to African.”

She was quick to add, “…the Ugandan entertainment industry is still young with a lot of potential to grow”.

Basing on her analysis, technical aspects like cinematography, visual effects, make up and costume, directing and other aspects in making music videos that will promote the “Ugandan brand”, will be of key consideration. Lesson learned! An explosion of the arts and culture is soon here.
