Cranes coach Micho Sredojevic believes Henry Kalungi should leave the USL Pro in the USA if the Richmond Kickers defender is to win back his starting position in the national team.
Kalungi has not started a game for Micho since the Serb took over Cranes reins in May, a development Isaac Isinde, the St George central defender has taken with both arms.
“With all due respect to the league where Kalungi is playing, he needs to move to a league where he can play more competitive football,” Micho told SuerSport.com. The USL Pro is a third tier league in America.
But while Micho talks of Kalungi leaving USL Pro in order to play more competitive football and in a better league, the same man summoned Charleston Battery’s Mike Azira for the World Cup qualifier against Senegal, also from the the same league.
“We shall try to help him in that. Also, using my contacts we want to help our players who have been inactive at their foreign clubs get where they can play.”
Most prominent to have been inactive at their clubs include striker Emmanuel Okwi, who fell out with his Etoile du Sahel club in Tunisia over contractual disagreements, and Godfrey Walusimbi, who left Don Bosco in DRC under unclear circumstances.
