On Friday night National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA) shut down the operations of Barbecue Lounge, a top Kampala nightspot because of noise pollution.
People at the scene confirmed how NEMA officials stormed the hangout late in the night where partiers were dancing away the night and popping wines before the managers were directed to close up.
The action was taken following a complaint from the neighboring Hotel Africana management that Barbecue staff had exhibited the highest level of stubbornness by playing loud music.
“Our Hotel guests are ever complaining of loud music from Centenary Park. We have on several occasions appealed to managers of these bars to ensure volume of their music is kept low in vain so we had to report the matter to NEMA,” a source at the Hotel revealed.
Partiers just looked on in shock, wondering how NEMA could disrupt business at a place owned by prominent city lawyer and presidential confidant Karuhanga Elly.
Keen observers say the temporally closure of the bar is likely to set the stage for a battle between Karuhanga and Bulaimu Muwanga Kibirige commonly known as the powerful Africana proprietor.
