Last year was one of charity where every singer that wanted a massive crowd at his show would tie him/herself to charity in order to milk money from people. Many artistes including Desire Luzinda, Bobi Wine, Jose Chameleone staged charity concerts. Some of course, were true to their word and used the proceeds to better the communities they live in, others however, are yet to hand over proceeds one year down the road.
In this light, the Karamojong are baying for Dr Jose Chameleone’s blood after he promised them boreholes as part of his Wale Wale project.
Chameleone who shot his Wale Wale video in Karamoja did not only promise to help them get more water sources from the project. He later held a concert at the Kampala Serena Hotel with tickets going for One Million shillings per head positioning it as a charity concert to give back to Karamoja.
In a recent interview with the elders, questions were asked on whether the money fell in the hands of wrong people or if the celebrity chose to ignore Karamoja after getting what he had wanted from them.
Apparently, none of the boreholes has been built. The last we heard a year ago is that Chameleone had finalized a deal with a Chinese firm to install the boreholes but that was it. The issue never came up again.
According to papers signed for the installation of the boreholes, Chogging Gold Mechanical & Electrical Equipment Company Ltd, was to build 100 boreholes for close to 1.5 million each. The contract further stated that each borehole was to have a solar panel on it and a pump as instructed by the Wale Wale singer.
