The highly anticipated TV series, Beneath the Lies, that premiered on Urban TV mid-December last year has indefinitely stopped screening after the loss of footage.
According to Kinetic Management Group (KMG) and Savannah MOON Productions, the footage which had been recorded and stored in one place for copyright purposes was stolen by malicious people who reportedly broke into the premises of the series’ producers.
Following this unfortunate incident, fingers have been pointed at several city TV stations accusing them of stealing Urban TV’s show that had become the talk on everyone lips after airing two episodes of the twelve part series.
According to our sources at Kinetic Management group, their premises were broken into in the wee hours on the morning and footage stolen. Police is now conducting investigations.
“The thieves broke into the house located in Lakeside Villas between 3:00 am to 4:30 am, on 30/12/2014 and stole property valued at US $76,000. The properties stolen include camera math box, camera lens, camera body, desktop computers, laptops, DVD players and hard drives.
Police were informed about the incident and our detectives swiftly started investigations that led to the arrest of three suspects. Three suspects are currently detained at Jinja Police Station to help with investigations. Our investigations show that the burglary was organized. At around 3:30am, thieves gained access into the house through the sitting room. They proceeded to a room where the gadgets were kept, packed everything and left the scene. The thugs striked when the crew had just finished shooting the last episodes. The thugs timed the crews when they had gone out to relax after a long day’s work. Our officers are still scrutinizing CCTV footage to find possible clues,” read part of the statement released by the BTL producers.
“This is regrettable because the series had built a large following after only two episodes”, Michael Owor, Urban TV Station Manager was quoted as saying. He added that he is hopeful that the producers will be able to continue production in spite of the setback.
We will keep you posted.
