Hitherto Sporting Club da Covilhã left back Alex Kakuba has completed his move to Portuguese topflight club Estoril Praia.
The Ugandan sealed the move at the weekend and will have a chance to feature in Europe next season. Estoril qualified for next season’s Europa League after finishing fourth in their domestic league.
The former Proline FC defender has signed a four year deal but financial details remain undisclosed. “It is a great challenge for my career and I will do everything to succeed,” said Kakuba.
The player, in his 20s, has been a frustrated figure for the national team after continuously being ignored for the Uganda Cranes. But this will not affect his club career resolve.
“I promise to reciprocate the club’s faith with as much work, commitment to help the team achieve the stated objectives of the new season,” he said in a statement on the club’s official website.
Kakuba has played at Covilhã for the past two seasons. Although he was last month summoned by Cranes coach Micho Sredojevic in preparation of the 2015 Nations Cup pre-qualifier against Madagascar, he did not make the final squad.
