A new hairdo, walking in heels and glowing tan are among the things that make a woman feel sexy.
Freshly applied lipstick, newly-shaved legs and a little black dress also have a positive effect on the psyche, according to a new survey, which examined what makes men and women feel confident.
While men’s self-assurance was rooted in being praised at work, a freshly shaven-face and a new suit, both sexes agree that a sunny day, booking a holiday and learning a new skill gave them a confidence boost.
Receiving compliments on outfits, going to the gym and being surrounded by friends also made both men and women feel their best.
In the survey, carried out by car manufacturer Kia to celebrate he re-vamp of the Kia Soul car, men liked getting a new date, and women liked being asked out on a date.
Being called Sir is something a quarter of men prefer, while being told you’ve lost weight will put a woman in a good mood.
The study found one in five women and 15 per cent of men claim that confidence comes from within, showing that it’s not just material things that give us a lift.
And rather than looks, the research revealed that the quality British people most respect is intelligence.
Sixty per cent of men said they feel more empowered and confident when they are at work.
Mark Hopkins, Marketing Director at Kia which commissioned the study to celebrate the re-vamp of the Kia Soul, said: ‘Many agree that if you think you look good, you feel good.
‘So if something as simple as giving yourself a fresh new image helps you to feel different and at your best then we’d encourage you to do it.
As we can see from the stats, other people can help you feel ready-to-roll, but we shouldn’t just rely on this.
‘An injection of something new in our lives can also give us a boost.
‘Whether it’s going to the gym, getting a new haircut or learning a new skill, if we reshape, restyle and rethink our lives, then everyone can feel empowered.’
