Socialite and entrepreneur Zari Hassan has questioned why economically disadvantaged individuals continue to have children they may not be able to support.

“In this economy, are poor people still giving birth? Talk to me!” Zari exclaimed, expressing disbelief over what she describes as a lack of responsibility among struggling families.

She revealed that her inbox is often flooded with messages from women pleading for help after being abandoned by the fathers of their children.

“Women come to my inbox crying that men have left them with kids and there’s nothing to eat,” she said.

Zari didn’t hold back in criticizing women who find themselves in such situations, saying: “Why are you still opening your legs when you’re poor and then getting pregnant? Isn’t family planning free these days? Women need to do better.”

Her remarks have sparked mixed reactions across social media. Some users applauded her for addressing what they consider a harsh but necessary truth, while others accused her of being insensitive to the realities and complexities that surround poverty, reproductive health, and access to education.

Known for her outspoken personality, Zari has never shied away from speaking her mind — but this time, many are questioning whether her delivery may have done more harm than good.
