A Pass Rejects Paid Music Promotion, Says His Music Speaks for Itself

A Pass has drawn a firm line in the sand when it comes to music promotion—he will not pay influencers, DJs, TikTokers, or media houses to promote his music.

In a statement that challenges the norms of Uganda’s entertainment industry, A Pass expressed strong disapproval of transactional promotion tactics, saying:

“I can’t pay a deejay to play my song. I can’t pay TV and radio to play my music. It’ll never happen.”

Unlike many artists who spend heavily to get their music airtime and online traction, A Pass insists that quality content should naturally attract listeners, without the need for bribes or media handouts.

“If you like my music, play it. If you don’t like it, it’s okay. Because you pay someone and they only play it when you’re around—that’s not helping the industry grow,” he added.

The singer emphasized that genuine appreciation and audience connection matter more than forced exposure.

According to him, paying for plays only leads to short-term visibility and undermines the integrity of the music ecosystem.

In a surprising twist, A Pass also admitted that he mostly listens to international music while at home.

“I usually play non-Ugandan music at my house,” he revealed. “But when I step out, I strictly want to listen to Ugandan music.”
