After wrapping up the impactful “Men’s Mental Health in Africa” discussion last week, ACTS FUND Uganda returned with another powerful conversation—this time challenging the fear often tied to Friday the 13th.
On Friday, June 13, ACTS FUND hosted a live Twitter Space session themed “Hope, Optimism, and Positive Thinking”, led by renowned mental health advocate Diana Kibuuka.
The one-hour online event moderated by Clinical Psychologist Mr. Charles Ssenabulya gathered listeners from across Uganda who shared stories of resilience, healing, and personal growth.
The session that featured a one Gideone Tomusange as the speaker of the day, opened with a warm message: “Let’s redefine Friday the 13th—not as a day of fear, but as a day for new beginnings.”
Highlights from the Session:
- Defining Hope:
“Hope is not pretending everything is okay; it’s knowing better days are still possible.” Participants shared touching stories of how they’ve overcome depression, heartbreak, and unemployment. - Optimism vs. Positive Thinking:
The discussion addressed a cultural habit in Uganda—staying silent during pain as a sign of strength. Kibuuka encouraged the audience to speak up and lean on community support, reminding them that real hope embraces vulnerability. - Hope as Strength:
“You’re not a fool for being hopeful. You’re a warrior for trying again.” The conversation highlighted how courage and hope work together, especially during life’s lowest moments.
- Daily Tools for Staying Hopeful:
Listeners were given three simple yet powerful habits:- Morning affirmations
- Daily gratitude practice
- Speaking life into tough situations
- Community Power:
The event closed with moving stories of transformation. From students who battled depression to inmates rediscovering purpose, the message was clear—hope can change lives.
The final affirmation, spoken together by listeners, was: “I choose faith over fear… I am not done. I am becoming.”
