Arsenal’s Germany midfielder Mesut Ozil faces a few weeks on the sidelines after suffering a hamstring injury in their Champions League exit at Bayern Munich.
Ozil failed to come out for the second-half as Arsenal drew 1-1 at holders Bayern on Tuesday in the last 16, second-leg, as the Gunners bowed out 3-1 on aggregate.
Gunners manager Arsene Wenger said Ozil will definitely miss their Premier League game at Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
“Ozil has a hamstring injury and it looks quite serious,” said Wenger.
“He will miss the Tottenham game for sure, he needs a scan. He’s out for at least a few weeks.”
The Munich injury caps a miserable two legs for Ozil, who failed to convert a crucial penalty in the 2-0 first-leg defeat in London and apologised to Gunners fans via Facebook.
He is one of Germany’s key players, with Joachim Loew’s side set to launch their World Cup campaign against Portugal on June 16.
Wenger also tore into Robben who earned his side a second penalty that was saved by Lukas Fabianski after appearing to get away with a blatant dive earlier.
“Overall in the two games what made the difference was the decision to send our goalkeeper off,” said Wenger.
“I felt it was not a red card as simple as that. Robben is very good at getting something out of nothing, he’s a good diver, but that’s part of his game.
“I have to congratulate the (Arsenal) players for their heart and effort.
We wanted to come out of that tie qualified, but we came up short.
“Good luck to Bayern, but I think they are a bit more vulnerable than last season.”
Robben angrily rebuked Wenger’s diving claims.
“I expect more of great managers, they don’t need to resort to claims like that,” said the Dutch winger.
“I don’t want to have to defend myself against remarks like that.”
