Champions League: Bayern Munich host Arsenal at the Allianz Arena

Arsene Wenger: Arsenal manager looking for second leg win

Arsenal take on European champions Bayern Munich in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League last-16 clash to looking overturn a 2-0 deficit from the first leg.

The Gunners were bitterly disappointed by their performance in the first leg, which left them with the mountain to climb in Munich.

And it is very much a repeat of last season, when Bayern and Arsenal met in the last 16, and again on that occasion the German outfit took a two-goal lead away from the Emirates as they won 3-1.

But Arsenal showed a response that they will gladly take on Tuesday, as they claimed a 2-0 win in Munich, only going out on away goals, and a repeat of that scoreline would take the game into extra time.

No matter what, Arsenal know they need to score twice to stay in the tie at the Allianz Arena.

And history does point to some English success against Bayern in recent teams are their last two defeats in all competitions were against English opposition – with Arsenal’s win last season and Manchester City earlier in this season’s group stages.

Despite those two minor set-backs, Bayern have been showing imperious form – especially domestically – as they have just broken the Bundesliga record of 16 consecutive wins and they are also undefeated in 49 top-flight games.

Such has been the impressive nature of Bayern in 2014 that goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has picked the ball out of his net just twice so far.

Arsenal do, though, have a decent recent record in Germany with three wins and two draws from their last five visits, giving them some hope of getting something from this crucial clash.
