Eddy Yawe has announced his return to the political arena, declaring his bid for the Kira Municipality parliamentary seat in the upcoming elections.
Yawe, who has been active in politics even before his younger brother, National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine), first contested for the same position in 2011 under the Democratic Party (DP) ticket.
Though unsuccessful, he remained engaged in political affairs and aligned himself with opposition movements.
In 2021, after consultations with Bobi Wine, Yawe decided not to run and instead backed NUP’s candidate. However, with the 2026 elections approaching, he has confirmed his intention to contest, this time under the NUP banner.
His primary goal is to unseat the current MP, Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, a strong figure in the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) and one of the most vocal opposition leaders in parliament.
