Legendary band singer Moses Matovu, has voiced his frustration with the government’s lack of support for the arts industry.

Matovu, a founding member of Afrigo Band, expressed his belief that the Ugandan government neither loves nor respects the arts, citing its inaction on crucial matters affecting the sector.

Matovu specifically pointed out the long-overdue amendments to the copyright law, which he claims may never materialize.

He emphasized that the government’s apathy towards the well-being of artists and their intellectual property rights has left many in the industry feeling marginalized.

Reflecting on his years of advocacy, Matovu shared that he has repeatedly called for artists to unite and demand their rights, but those efforts have yet to yield meaningful results.

He also urged the younger generation of artists to set aside their pride and seek guidance from the more experienced elders in the industry. According to Matovu, such collaboration could pave the way for positive changes and growth in Uganda’s music landscape.
