Hip-Hop Singer Spyda MC Shares Insights on State of the Genre in Uganda

Ugandan Hip-hop musician Spyda MC recently offered his perspective on the current landscape of Hip-hop in Uganda during an interview on Bukedde TV.

Expressing both admiration for the genre and frustration with industry gatekeepers, Spyda MC highlighted challenges faced by Hip-hop artists in the country.

“We love Hip-hop, but we have always been kept behind closed doors by the music industry gatekeepers,” Spyda MC remarked during the interview.

He lamented the struggle of organizing Hip-hop concerts that often see minimal attendance, with fewer than 20 attendees being a common occurrence. Additionally, he criticized some journalists for negative coverage without offering support in promoting events.

Despite these challenges, Spyda MC emphasized the resilience of the current generation of Hip-hop artists in Uganda. “We, the current generation of Hip-hop artists, are solid and determined to keep the culture going,” he affirmed.

Spyda MC has recently risen to prominence in the Ugandan music scene, gaining widespread attention after a video showcasing his exceptional Hip-hop skills went viral on social media. Previously an underground and undiscovered artist, Spyda MC hails from the complexities of life in the Ghetto, making his journey to fame all the more remarkable.
