Bobi Wine and Besigye’s planned protest faced significant obstacles as both leaders found themselves under house arrest, surrounded by military and police forces.
Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, asserted that despite the security measures, the protest was still on, emphasizing ongoing demands for infrastructure improvements and the release of political prisoners.
The heavy military presence around Bobi Wine’s home and Dr Kizza Besigye’s situation being described as a result of authorities’ cowardice highlight the challenging environment for the opposition leaders. Besigye, in a bold statement, urged citizens to stand against the deplorable state of roads in Uganda, emphasizing the need for collective action.
The call to action addresses the widespread issue of poorly maintained roads affecting communities across Uganda.
The leaders aim to draw attention to this problem by encouraging citizens to share their experiences on social media, showcasing the daily difficulties caused by inadequate infrastructure.
Despite the leaders’ efforts, the planned protest faced setbacks, with both homes under siege. The leaders, part of the United Forces of Change consortium, announced alternative forms of protest, such as planting banana stems in potholes and organizing joint prayers in specific districts, signaling a persistent commitment to addressing issues of inadequate service delivery in the country.
