Hon. Joel Ssenyonyi (Nakawa-West) has been chosen as the incoming Leader of the Opposition, succeeding Hon. Mathias Mpuuga (Nyendo Mukungwe, Masaka City), who is now the Commissioner of Parliament.
According to Chimp Reports, NUP President, Robert Kyagulanyi was uncomfortable with Mpuuga for being “so diplomatic” in dealing with the government.
Kyagulanyi preferred a more combative LOP to pressure the government to free NUP activists languishing in jails.
Mpuuga, who also doubles as NUP’s Deputy President, has been leading the opposition in Parliament since 2021, a position that will now be occupied by Ssenyonyi.
