Nsimbe – El Merreikh lack speed

George Nsimbe, the KCCA FC coach, has said their opponents in the preliminary round of the CAF Champions League, El Merreikh, are a good side, but lack speed in their system of play.

Although they had not been favoured to win away, the Ugandan league champions upset El Merreikh 2-0 in the first leg played in Khartoum last weekend. Tony Odur and Herman Wasswa netted the goals.

Speaking to MTNFootball.com before training this morning, Nsimbe said although the Sudan team has very experienced players, they are slow because of age.

“I have much faster players who can [out] run them,” said Nsimbe, who however added that anything can still happen in the second leg.

He said the El Merreikh team that eliminated KCCA FC on a 2-1 goal aggregate in the same tournament in 2009 was much stronger than the current one.

Nsimbe explained that they will need early goals to kill off the Sudan team.

“Although the Sudan team is very good and have several experienced players, my boys must make sure they take their chances,” he said.

The El Merreikh team that lost to European champions Bayern Munich last month in an international friendly in Doha, Qatar, is expected to arrive this afternoon aboard an Ethiopian Airlines flight.

Victory for the Ugandan team will see them face the winner between Zambia’s Nkana Red Devils and Mbabane Swallows. The Swaziland giants humbled Nkana 2-0 in the first leg played in Mbabane last weekend.
