Mozey Radio and Weasel of the Goodlyf are top favourites to win the artiste of the year at the second edition of the HiPipo Music Awards 2014 that are due on Saturday at the Wonder World Auditorium, Kansanga.
The group also stands a good chance of winning in at least three of the other categories they were nominated; Best Duo-Group Artiste, Album of the Year (for Obudde), Song of the Year (Magnetic), Best Male Ragga Dancehall (Magnetic), and Best RnB Song (Lets Go Home).
Bebe Cool, who is nominated in five categories this year, walked away with the top gong last year.
In a related development, while the Big Four – Chameleone, Bebe Cool, Goodlyfe and Bobi Wine have mentioned little on their facebook pages in terms of canvassing for votes, some upcoming artistes have taken to social media to boost their chances of winning awards in the Pepsi-sponsored event.
Irene Ntale, who is nominated in the female artiste of the year category, posted on Monday: “Hey guys, don’t forget to vote for me in the Hipipo Music Awards!! They take place this comin Saturday8thFeb.”
Others are Viboyo Oweyo, Grace Nakimera and Geosteady.
Altogether, there are 44 categories and each category will have one winner. The road map to HMA 2014 started in September last year with regional tours.
Entrance fee to the Saturday awards night is Shs20,000, 50,000 and 100,000.
