The Pearlwood Awards 2021 edition has been launched.

To be held under the theme, “For Her”, the 2021 edition is dedicated to content that features and celebrates Ugandan women and the Ugandan girl child.

Pearlwood Awards is a collaboration between the Pearlwood Association of Uganda, the Great Lakes Institute for Strategic Studies (GLISS), YOTV Channels and MTN Uganda to promote Uganda’s movie industry.

The collaborating institutions are driven by a shared commitment to mobilize and provide Ugandan movie artists with the resources and platforms needed to develop film products that are Ugandan in character and competitive in the global film industry.

“Through this collaboration, we will harness GLISS’s intellectual ingenuity and convening power, YOTV’s digital prowess and MTN Uganda’s dominance of the telecommunications market to build Pearlwood Awards into a globally recognizable brand with a Ugandan character,” says Godber Tumushabe, Associate Director at the Great Lakes Institute for Strategic Studies.

According to Mavis Musungu, MTN Uganda’s Digital Go-To-Market Specialist, “The most important thing about any good content is the reach. Using MTN’s robust digital presence and wide reach, we are committed to ensuring that this good Pearlwood entertainment content reaches every household not only in Uganda but across the world, just like the other movie industries.”

According to Mzee Bwanika, Director of Pearlwood Association, “The partnership between the Association and the three collaborating institutions promises a new future for Uganda’s film industry.”

The Pearlwood Awards 2021 Edition will be held in November 2021.
