With the goal of empowering and developing women entrepreneurs, Zimba Women in collaboration with NTF IV and Funzi organized a 6-week program to equip young women with entrepreneurial skills.  The program which was being conducted for the first time concluded last Saturday with 25 students graduating in a ceremony that was held at Innovation Village.

During the ceremony, the graduating students presented their business models from which four of the most impressive were selected to be facilitated for further development. The winning business models included “Tulunde Chicken”, “House of Tomato”, and “Splendid Media”.

The graduation ceremony was graced by Kenneth Bagurakayo, a representative from the Ministry of ICT, as the guest of honor. Speaking during the ceremony, Bagurakayo affirmed government’s commitment to support local innovations. “One of the things we are doing as the Ministry of ICT is to support startups to grow because it is through such small companies that economies grow. We are ready to support innovations that are employing technology in their business, not only financially but also through mentorship programs and networking opportunities with other professionals in your industry.”

Speaking on behalf of the graduating students, Joan Apio extended gratitude to Zimba Women for this initiative saying that the knowledge acquired and the networks built would go a long way in making them formidable entrepreneurs.
