Undoubtedly, Facebook is the king of social networking space, but when it comes to social messaging on mobiles WhatsApp emerges as the clear winner.

This new fact has been revealed by a new five-country survey by On device. According to the survey, WhatsApp is the new market leader in mobile social messaging. It has left behind giants like Apple’s iMessage, Google’s Hangouts, BBM Messenger, Snapchat, Skype and more.

The survey was conducted on 3,759 Android and iOS device owners across five countries- US, Brazil, South Africa, Indonesia and China but no Windows Phone users were included.

“The #SamsungTwitterParty is back! Get ready to party the night away come 19th December at Zone 7 with fellow tweeps. Entrance is 15,000shs. Call 0775439894 for details. Great music and drinks.”

The people surveyed were asked which mobile messaging app they used weekly. According to the survey, 44 percent of the people surveyed said they use WhatsApp at least once per week compared to 35 percent who revealed using Facebook.

28 percent people are said to be using WeChat at least once a week, most of which were from China. There were around 17 percent who used BBM at least once a week and majority were from Indonesia and South Africa.

WhatsApp’s chief executive Jan Koum, in April had claimed that the service now has more users than Twitter and carries more messages than Facebook and in August, he announced that it had crossed the 300 million monthly active users mark.

Seems like WhatsApp has managed to gain a larger mobile messaging marketshare and has scored well among the users.
