MTV Shuga Season Six has premiered in Uganda. The new season of the TV drama series premiered at an exclusive silent screening event held at Sky Lounge on Thursday evening.
Speaking at the premiere, Humphrey Nabimanya, the Team Leader & Founder of Reach A Hand Uganda, underscored the importance of the drama series in spreading the message of sexual health among the youth.
“Reach A Hand Uganda is committed to empowering young people in Uganda, and through MTV Shuga, we believe it addresses key social issues affecting young people not only in Uganda, but Africa and this is through realistic storylines and characters that resonate with them. The series seeks to impart knowledge and empower the youth to take positive action towards their health and lives.” Said Humphrey Nabimanya.
He further revealed that Ugandan and Nigerian actors are collaborating to make a Ugandan version of the TV drama series aimed at telling a story that resonates with the local youth, with the first episode expected to premiere before the end of the year.

Season 6 dubbed “MTV Shuga Naija”, was shot in Nigeria and weaves in stories that will speak to young people cross not only across Nigeria, but Africa at large and the many gatekeepers they have to engage with as they navigate choices about safe sex, family planning, the use of contraceptives, peer pressure, domestic and sexual violence.
The premiere was graced by Nigerian actor Emmanuel Ikubese alongside a host of other local celebrities. It culminated with a performance from musicians Toniks and Geosteady.
