Let’s be honest: We all fib a little from time to time. Maybe you blame the dog when you let one loose or fudge the numbers a little when it comes to how many cookies you ate. Hey, nobody is harmed in the process.
But apparently lying about sex is a BFD to most people. According to anew survey from DirectTV, people rank sex lies as the worst ones you can tell.
For the survey, researchers polled 2,000 people on which fibs they tell the most. They then had them rank how severe they thought the top lies were and sex lies came out on top.
These are worst offenders, per the survey:
- “I’m on birth control”
- “I’m not just looking for sex”
- “I’ve slept with X number of people”
- “You’re the first person I’ve ever done this with”
While we totally agree that No. 1 (seriously, WHO lies about that?) and No. 2 suck big time, we’re not so sure that Nos. 3 and 4 are all thaaaat bad, unless the latter involves unprotected sex. Because, really—is it that important if you’ve done it on the beach at sunset with someone else before?
As for the rest of the list, “I always wash my hands after using the bathroom” came in at No. 5 and “I’ve never smoked” was No. 6. The least severe lie, per study participants? “Your baby name is cute.”
Er, but what about the one when you tell someone their actual baby is cute?
