hillywoodPreparations are in full gear for next month’s Rwanda Film Festival, otherwise known as Hillywod. The weeklong red carpet event commences on July 20 at Century Cinema, located at Kigali City Tower.

“The preparations have begun and we are expecting a festival full of aesthetic richness. We expect a fun-filmed festival,” PR Rwandan Film Festival, Jolie Murenzi told The New Times.

“The Kigali venues will include many restaurants, hotels and cinemas. And the provisional upcountry venues for Hillywood are Musanze, Rubavu and Huye,” noted Murenzi.

The festival, which will be running under the theme “Our Mothers, Our Heroes”, will include films of all categories; including documentaries, fiction, animation and experimental both short and feature length movies.

So far the ninth annual film festival has received 100 film submissions and participating countries in this year’s festival include Burkina Faso, Egypt, England and United States.

The 2013 Rwanda film festival is organised by Rwanda Cinema Centre in partnership with the Ministry of Sports and Culture. Last year, a total of 87 films ranging from features to documentaries were screened.
