Sex is not only good for our skin and health, but it also gives us a boost of energy. After experiencing the Big O and screaming “Hallelujah,” I spring off my back (or knees) and feel like a brand new mujer. And it seems we can all still enjoy sex when we’re women of a certain age.
Here are 10 surprising things that you didn’t know about what sex is like after 50:
Your abuela is getting some.
And so are most of our abuelas and abuelos. One study discovered that over 50 percent of men and 33 percent of women over the age of 70 are having sex. Considering that many people over 70 aren’t as spry as they once were, that’s pretty impressive.
Older men are better in bed.
But I thought they’d be tired? Perhaps. Thing is they are also more experienced. There is no need for marathon sex because men over 50 can hit the spot much more quickly. Allegedly.
Erections rise slowly.
According to AARP, men over 50 can still get erect; it just takes them a little longer to firm up. Their penises are like tortoises, not hares! And so they rise slowly. That’s what Viagra is for, amrite?
Sexual fantasies are still a thing.
Just because you’re older doesn’t mean you stop fantasizing about sex. Another AARPstudy discovered that 25 percent of people over 50 indulge in erotic dreams at least once a day. Men, of course, are just as horny when they’re older as they are in their youth. They’re five times more likely to live in a sexy dreamland than their female counterparts.
More money, more sex.
Those who are over 50 often think about retirement plans and 401Ks. If their finances aren’t up to par, they don’t feel secure and don’t want to have sex. “Financial worries tend to seep into all parts of a couple’s life together,” says Dr. Pepper Schwartz, a sexologist at the University of Washington in Seattle. That includes the bedroom.
They are getting frisky…online.
No matter how you slice it people want and need sex. So Tinder jumped on the love market for singles over 50. In April 2015, Stitch.net was introduced to our elders. That way they’re just as busy swiping (and hooking up casually) as the rest of ya.
Singles are having more sex.
The rumor is true: marriage kills sex. AARP reported 48 percent of singles over 50 have sex once a week while only 36 percent of married couples get it in on a weekly basis. As for who’s more satisfied, well, that’s also singles. Only 52 percent of married couples said they were sexually happy compared to 60 percent of singles.
Oral sex is not all the rage.
Felattio isn’t a selling point for older men and women. Only 20 percent of men and 12 percent of women over 50 admitted to having oral sex once a week. I guess that’s better than nada. Some men should be so lucky…
Men have more orgasms than women.
Even after 50, we get the short end of the stick regarding orgasms, chicas! Besides receiving more head, men over 50 also orgasm more often than women do each time we have sex. That’s 73 percent of men to 33 percent of women to be exact. Que cosa!
Masturbation is all the rage.
