Malawi condemned Uganda to a 1-0 defeat in an international friendly played at the Kamuzu Banda Stadium in the Malawian capital of Blantyre on Monday, 6th July 2015.
Uganda’s team was largely composed of under 23 players as they used the friendly match as a buildup game in preparation for their upcoming challenge against Egypt in the U-23 Africa Championship qualifiers.
The only goal of the game was scored by Chiukepo Msowoya in the 90th minute in front of a very lively crowd on Malawi’s 51st Independence Day anniversary. The match was also graced by the country’s president Peter Muthalika.
Despite the defeat, Uganda national team coach, Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic hailed the team’s display on Monday evening.
“We had challenges with our travel but the boys have had such a nice display. They were harshly punished in the last moment of the game when they conceded a goal from a corner kick,” Micho told www.fufa.co.ug.
“I am not happy with the results but excited with the team’s display after some unavoidable difficult circumstances,” the Serbian further remarked.
The team is expected to return home today at 7 pm aboard South Africa Airways.
