Uganda Cranes were yesterday draw in group D with Zimbabwe, Zambia and Mali who they will be playing at the 2016 African Nations Championship finals (CHAN) in Rwanda.
It will be a renewal of acquaintances for Uganda, who make their third consecutive appearance, and Zimbabwe, who make their fourth at the biennial tournament, since the two sides met in the same group during the 2014 CHAN finals in South Africa and played to a goalless draw.
Zambia is also another familiar face for the Cranes since they met in 2012 for the 2013 African Cup of Nations Qualifiers with the Chipolopolo knocking out Uganda on penalties at Namboole.
The draws were held yesterday at Serena Hotel in Kigali and conducted by CAF Secretary General Hicham El Amrani as Uganda were busy ejecting Togo out of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers at Namboole.
The function was graced by Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame and CAF 2nd Vice President Almamy Kabele Camara as the leader of delegation.
The competition will kick-off on January 16 to February 7, 2016 in Rwanda with Group A playing at Amahoro Stadium in Kigali, Group B in Butare, Group C at Nyamirambo Stadium (Kigali) while Group D will be in Gisenyi.
Groups:
A – Rwanda, Gabon, Morocco, Cote d’Ivoire
B – DR Congo, Angola. Cameroon, Ethiopia
