The Uganda Cubs thumped Makerere University football team 5-2 in a friendly match at Nakivubo stadium on Sunday. The Cubs are in preparations for the CAF U-17 return leg in which they will be hosting the Zambian young Chipolopolo at Nakivubo stadium on Saturday 27th September in the third round of the qualification campaign.
Cubs’ head Coach Matia Lule looks to be running on the right track as far as preparations are concerned ahead of what he claims won’t be an easy game where they have to convert a 2-goal deficit after Uganda lost two nil in Lusaka, Zambia.
He also remains optimistic that they have the potential to convert the result though doesn’t commit himself to it. “In the first leg in Zambia, we spent the whole first half adjusting to Zambia’s style of play. But the boys now know what to expect on Saturday. Although I cannot promise heaven and earth from these minors, we are sure to get a good result,” Lule remarked after the game on Sunday.
A few players have had fitness problems after sustaining a few injuries and knocks during the first leg tie in Lusaka, Zambia but were however passed fit and participated in the build-up match against Makerere University in which they managed to triumph 5-2. Some of these were defenders Bashir Asiku, Diego Katumba, Kipper Luwalu, Willy Ochen and striker Shaban Mohammed.
Makerere University also used the game to mark off their serious preparations for the university league that resumes this week on 24th September at the quarter final stage of the tourney.
Meanwhile the Federation of Ugandan Football Association (FUFA) awaits for the final verdict following their petition to CAF on four Zambian players over suspicions that they might be of over age.
