Following a request from CAF, Guinea has chosen a country to host their group E opener against Togo. The West African country that has been heavily hit by the Ebola endemic were early this month told by the Confederation of African Football to change venue for their first home game against Togo in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations’ qualifiers that are set to kick off on the first weekend of September.
The orders from CAF to Guinea followed a request from the Togolese Football Association (TFF) to the body (CAF) about the need to take preventive measures to avoid mass rally which could facilitate the spread of the deadly epidemic. TFF therefore demanded for a change in the venue of the clash due to fears of the deadly Ebola that has unsparingly hit the West African country and spreading to its neighbours. Guinea has responded positively to the orders by CAF after they chose the hosts of the 2015 Orange Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco to be neutral ground for the group E tie. The game will be played at Mohammed V stadium in Casablanca, Morocco.
“The Federation Royale Marocaine de Football (FRMF) in agreement with the authorities of the Kingdom of Morocco has agreed to host their Guinea counterparts on their territory”, statement on CAFOnline reads.
Guinea‘s U17 team that is also set to play Togo on 29th September in the 2015 Africa Youth Championship qualifiers will also be in Morocco. Guinea and Togo are in Group E with Uganda and Ghana.
