X Factor bosses have hired an ex-Royal Marine as a security guard to enforce rules in the house contestants share.
The new hardman – known only as Gary – is there to make sure singers don’t binge on fast food and that everyone is in their own rooms by 9pm with lights out at midnight.
Producers called in the military to keep the would-be stars fresh, focused and concentrating on rehearsals.
James Graham, 17, from the contest’s new unnamed boyband, said: “Gary goes round with a really bright torch. He scares the hell out of us.”
Parisa Tarjomani, 20, from band Only The Young added: “We’re not allowed downstairs after 12 and not allowed in each others’ rooms after 9pm.”
A show source said: “We have a duty of care and in previous years there has been too much junk food and too many late nights.
“Our security team will stop all that. Hopefully performances will improve too.”
All the acts are now busy rehearsing at the X Factor’s North London studios.
