It could have changed the venue from Gatto Matto to Legends Bar, but Kwivuga is still one of those nights people with an ear for poetry mark out on their calendars. The crowd is smaller now. But the poets are the same. And the fun is still unbridled like before. Kwivuga took place on Monday evening at their new abode at Legends Bar.
Maybe dropping it on a Monday might be the reason as to why the turn up is not big. Nonetheless, words ruled the night once again. A handful of poets, as usual, came through to speak out their minds, to spew out words and seek solace in such an ambiance where words and people engage in literary matrimony.
The night saw performances from Nunu Umuringa, Gloria, Roshan Karmali with her seductive poem, Mildred Apenyo who did ‘Incognito’, Slim Emcee with a piece titled Tell Your Neighbor among his repertoire of poems, rap queen Keko, renowned poet Jason Ntaro, Chebet Esther et al.
There was also a special performance from Canaan Gents; a group of four gentlemen who are armed with voices that melt insides. When they started performing, the drinks on tables were forgotten, mouths flung open in an agape spectacle, the world held its breathe and when they finished, hands were clapped in applause. It was indeed an evening where words took the front seats.
