I won’t forget my roots – Tiwa Savage speaks out on her deal with Jay Z label

Tiwa Savage

It’s been an excellent year for Nigerian singer, Tiwa Savage. She’s made headlines left, right and center for all the right reasons (and the odd bit of scandal!) and to cap it all off, she signed a mega deal with Jay Z’s American label, Roc Nation. This week, she revealed how excited she is to be working with the label on new projects.

In an in-depth interview, she added that she will not be losing her Nigerian influence or forgetting her roots just because she is now signed to an overseas level.

She said: “I definitely don’t want to forget my Nigerian roots. I think that when you sign an international deal, there is this tendency to forget home. We artistes also tend to forget that the main reason they signed you is because you were doing very well at home, so you can’t forget that. So, I am basically just trying to strike a balance with both audience and market.”

She was also asked to comment on the media pressure she’s been subjected to over the past few months and she revealed that she’s not letting it get to her. “You can’t make everyone happy. I don’t try to waste time on people that don’t love me, so I just spend time with people that love me so I don’t disappoint them,” she said.
