Women entrepreneurs have been tipped on mentorship. This was during the opening day of the annual Zimba Women Technology for Business international summit which was graced by several high ranking women business leaders from across Africa at the Kampala Sheraton Hotel on Wednesday.

Addressing guests, US Ambassador to Uganda Deborah Malac, who was also the chief guest underscored the role of mentors in business as she reechoed remarks from the preceding panel discussion.

“It took me about half of my career before I realised that it was okay to ask for guidance from someone who had been there before and learn from their lessons. Everyone should find a mentor because there are a lot of women out there who have already forged a pathway that we all can learn from.” Malac stated.

She further highlighted the need for women’s economic empowerment in every nation’s development.”Women’s economic empowerment is a critical step in creating a more prosperous Uganda for everyone. No nation can become a vibrant middle income country if at least half of its population is left out of the development equation. For Uganda to reach its goal of middle income status, women business owners must be an active part of the economy.” She added.

The two-day summit which is organised by Zimba Women, a leading East African IT solutions provider specialising in the provision of technical and software solutions for small and medium enterprises, is being held under the theme “Harnessing Global trade opportunities to empower the African Woman”.

It aims to bring together industry experts and women business leaders to brainstorm, speed network and to make common cause on how they can strengthen business to business linkages.
