Songbird Winnie Nwagi is surely on fire just like her ‘Fire Baby’ nickname says. Fresh from pulling off a successful maiden concert at Lugogo Cricket Oval last month, the Swangz Avenue singer is super elated after landing a juicy landmark gig in UK.
Nwagi is set to become the first Ugandan musician to perform at the legendary London music and events venue, The Ovo Arena, Wembley.
The ‘Malaika’ singer has been booked by Boss Entertainment to perform at the much anticipated ‘Celebrating Africa’ concert scheduled for 21st October 2022. Boss Entertainment is owned by Addo David, a Nigerian events promoter.
Nwagi will share stage with some of Africa’s music heavyweights including Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie, Nigeria’s Lojay, Diamond Platnumz from Tanzania and French rapper Vegedream among others.
It’s worth noting that none of Uganda’s big names singers including BET Award winning Eddy Kenzo, Bebe Cool, Jose Chameleone or Sheebah Karungi have had the opportunity to perform at such a venue.
A few years back, Chameleone was set to become the first Ugandan to perform at Wembley but that didn’t happen as the concert organizer somehow pulled out.
The Ovo Arena, Wembley capacity is 12,500 and over the years, this venue has seen some of the biggest names in popular music walk its doors: Queen, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, Cher, Michael Jackson, Beyonce, Tina Turner, Madonna, ABBA, Stevie Wonder and many others.
In Africa, Burna Boy had a sold out concert at the Wembley with his multi-city “African Giant Tour”. Wizkid and David have also performed at the venue.
