NTV Koona star, Mile Rwamiti, recently shared his two pence on the issue of music groups in Uganda in comparison with standing as a solo artistes in a local magazine.
According to Miles, it is advisable for a singer in Uganda not to join a music group unless they are looking for very quick fame.
Miles started by pointing out that managing a solo music star is very difficult but not more than managing a music group as the manager has to look out for each of the individual members. He then noted that music groups in Uganda usually fail to set long term goals hence their downfall.
“When most Ugandan musicians star groups, they fail to look at the long term goals. They have no strategies and objectives written down and this spells their downfall,” the once Kampala mayor hopeful noted.
He then noted that groups can be a good way to find quick fame. He use the examples of AK47 (RIP), Melody, Rema and Irene Ntale.
“While I discourage groups, if the main intention is looking for fame I highly recommend a good mentor. Without a good mentor like Chameleone, we would not have Radio and Weasel, AK47, Papa Ciddy or even Melody. Without Bebe Cool there would be no Rema or Irene Ntale. These artistes have helped pave way for these musicians through their music groups.”
Miles concluded by urging upcoming artistes to avoid groups, work as solo artistes, learn an instrument or two from industry heads like Afrigo band and take over the music industry one step at a time.
