Many Ugandans have been curious about the recent visit of Manchester United goalkeeper André Onana to Uganda.
Onana arrived last week and has since become a hot topic in the media and among the public.
The reason for Onana’s visit is to represent his home country, Cameroon, in their African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualification match against Zimbabwe.
The match is set to take place today, Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at the Mandela National Stadium in Namboole.
Photos circulating on social media show Onana enjoying his stay in Uganda, also known as the Pearl of Africa.
Historically, Cameroon has had a strong record against Zimbabwe, having not lost to them since 1997. Zimbabwe, however, will be looking to end that streak.
Zimbabwe’s AFCON Qualifying Campaign
Zimbabwe began their AFCON qualification with a goalless draw against Kenya, where they managed only one shot on goal from four attempts. They have since faced losses in recent matches against South Africa and Kenya, and also struggled in games against Comoros and Zambia with scores of 0-1 and 0-2, respectively.
Cameroon’s AFCON Qualifying Campaign
Cameroon started their AFCON qualifying campaign with a victory over Namibia. A 65th-minute goal from Vincent Aboubakar secured the win, placing Cameroon at the top of Group J. Since then, Cameroon has experienced only one defeat—a 2-0 loss to Nigeria—while also securing wins against Cape Verde and Gambia and drawing with Angola.
The clash between Cameroon and Zimbabwe promises to be a thrilling encounter as both teams aim to advance in the qualification stages.
