Brian Bagenda, the son to the ISO boss was today, convicted of murder. Life has a funny way of recreating brands of people, or should I say, people have a way of re-branding.
My first and only interaction with Bagenda was at St.Henry’s College Kitovu aka SHACK. I was in the O-Level Section, he was in the Senior Section.
We used to have Academic Assemblies and it is here that Bagenda did occupy space. He was as bright as they came, a lanky man as many nerds of that era.
Sooner than later, he would become an Assistant Head Prefect. It is on the Monday morning Assemblies that he built his brand. Every Monday morning, we armed ourselves with dictionaries in anticipation of Bagenda’s complex vocabulary. He never ran short of bombastic words. We cheered at the ease with which a man made a joke of the English language, for words, big words, came easily to him.
Where in the past, Assemblies were venues for trapping escaping buffaloes, they would soon become a place where students displayed their command of the English language.
Most of us thus came to know him for two things, the English and the brain.
Time forward, the man has now been convicted of murdering his girlfriend.
