Former athletics coach, Peter Wemali has been acquitted of sexual abuse charges by the Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF).
Wemali had been accused of sexually harassing female athletes during last year’s Africa Cross-country Championships training camp in Bukwo.
To add insult to injury, he was also accused of aggravated defilement and infecting three under-aged female athletes with HIV.
“Our probe committee did a thorough job. They did thorough investigations. Why would I doubt the report of this committee,” UAF president Dominic Otucet told Daily Monitor.
“We are yet to see the police report. However, according to our report, there was no evidence of sexual abuse,” Otucet added.
Wemali was sacked from the athletics camp in Kapchorwa following Police investigations that indicated that he made sexual advances towards a female runner.
