For the last thirty eight years, Uganda Cranes has failed to qualify for the Africa Nations Cup. The Cranes have really come close on several occasion like in 2011 against Kenya, in 2012 against Zambia and in 2014 against Guinea but failed to make it through at the end of it all.
Now the national team head tactician, Milutin Micho Sredojevic has come out to promise the local football fraternity that they will do whatever it takes to ensure that the team qualifies for the 2017 AFCON tournament.
“We believe that this campaign has a great chance for us and we shall do everything possible to make sure we qualify and all the preparations to achieve that dream have started,” the 47-year-old is quoted by a local newspaper, Daily Monitor.
The Serbian’s promise comes ahead of the Cranes’ back-to-back fixture against Burkina Faso in Ouagadougou for the first leg on 26th March and on 29th in Kampala for the reverse fixture.
“There are six points in front of us. Despite all the quality players they have, we are not interested in that; we are going man-for-man to fight for the result believing that we shall succeed to fulfill the mission and dream of all Ugandans after 37 years,” Micho further remarked.
Currently, Uganda leads the pool with 6 points from two games.
Meanwhile, the Cranes have a local tour this weekend in which they will be travelling to West Nile.
