Social commentator and businessman Frank Gashumba has come out to address critics of his recent kukyala ceremony with Malaika Mutoni, revealing key details about the planning and scale of the function.

According to Gashumba, he informed Malaika of his intentions to visit her parents as early as December last year, marking two years since the couple began their relationship.
The ceremony, initially scheduled for April 2025, had to be moved due to the Catholic Lent season.
“Since I’m a Catholic, we couldn’t hold it during Lent. That’s how we ended up choosing 14th May, a date picked by Pastor Bujjingo,” Gashumba stated. “To all those criticizing—who among you holds a customary kukyala or kwanjula on a weekday and has seven ministers in attendance?”
Gashumba went on to highlight the extravagance and exclusivity of the event, which took place in Lwemiyaga, Sembabule district. He boasted that the ceremony became the talk of the area, largely due to the impressive convoy of luxury vehicles.
“We had over 120 cars—G-Wagons 2025 models that burst like thunder,” he said. “All those cars were given to me free of charge by Mighty Rides, because we’re friends. I was especially impressed by how punctual the guests were.”
Gashumba also claimed that the event caused a temporary spike in local fuel demand. “We kept it private, but I can confidently say we caused inflation. Petrol stations dried up.”
