ARSENAL star Alexis Sanchez has revealed he used to wash cars and do somersaults in an effort to escape his impoverished life in Chile.
The former Barcelona star has made a promising start to his Gunners career, and was voted the club’s Player of the Month for September as well as notching the Goal of the Month award.
However, despite his meteoric rise in football, Sanchez has opened about his financial hardship in Chile in a bid to make it to the top of the game.
“As I could do somersaults, people would say to me, ‘do a somersault and we’ll give you 50 or 100 Pesos’,” Sanchez said.
“I also used to clean cars.
“My first pair of boots were given to me by the Mayor of Tocopilla after my mum went to speak with him. One day he turned up at my house and just gave me them. I was made up, like a dog with two tails!”
Sanchez also revealed he isn’t fussed about what position, as long as he isn’t on the bench.
He added: “I can run and cut inside on my left foot, but any position is good for me as long as I’m playing football because I hate being on the bench.
“If you take me off it’s like you’re taking the ball off me.”
