Nigerian music has surged ahead of Ugandan music due to a supportive and collaborative culture among Nigerian artists, according to Ugandan male vocalist Vyroota.

In a recent statement, Vyroota highlighted the camaraderie within the Nigerian music industry, which he believes is a key factor in its success.

He noted that when rising star Ruger was gaining prominence, established Nigerian musicians like Burna Boy paused their own releases to allow the newcomer to shine.

“In Nigeria, they are supportive. When Ruger was coming up, Burna Boy and other big Nigerian musicians paused releasing music for the boy to shine,” Vyroota said during his interview on Galaxy FM.

He contrasted this with the situation in Uganda, where he feels that established artists are less inclined to support emerging talent. “In Uganda, it can’t happen. Big musicians don’t want the young ones to shine,” he added.

Vyroota’s comments have sparked discussions within the Ugandan music community about the need for greater collaboration and mentorship to foster the next generation of artists.

As the global popularity of Afrobeats continues to rise, the supportive dynamics within the Nigerian music industry serve as a model for other countries looking to elevate their musical talents on the world stage.
