Vodafone Uganda has announced that it will hold its premier Information and Communication Technology (ICT) empowerment forum dubbed “Vodafone PowerTalks” in Kampala, on Friday April 24, 2015.
Vodafone PowerTalks is an initiative by Vodafone Uganda aimed at bringing together key players in the ICT ecosystem to share knowledge and experiences on the transformative power of ICT. Announcing the first in a series of events today, Vodafone Uganda’s new Chief Executive Officer, Allan Richardson said that the forum would redefine the way owners of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Uganda view and interact with the internet.
“This is a deliberate effort to create a more internet ‘literate’ Uganda by proactively engaging, challenging, educating entrepreneurs on the transformative power of the internet as well differentiating our offering,” he said.
“Vodafone is passionate about people and what technology can do for them. As such this forum is critical to engage and learn about best practices in ICT and how these can be leveraged to empower businesses in becoming more efficient, effective and globally competitive,” he added.
Richardson further noted that Uganda exists in a digital era where the internet has manifested itself as a very powerful tool that has the ability to change not only the way we communicate but also do business.
“The internet has turned the world into a global village and has become the universal source of information for billions of people, at home, at school, and at work. It’s therefore important that every Ugandan embraces the internet. This forum is designed to inspire majority of Ugandans to utilize the internet and related technologies to power their business to the next level of growth,” he noted.
The forum is expected to attract over 200 SME entrepreneurs, managers and ICT enthusiasts from industries including; telecoms, banking, education, media, health, engineering and medicine. The theme of the premiere forum is ICT: A World of Endless Possibilities For Your Business.
Vodafone has lined up a panel of thought leaders from different business sectors. “I am looking forward to sharing ideas and the sharing of experiences with the diverse audience at the forum. I believe this is a great opportunity for us all to share and learn about the new digital age and how technology transforms many businesses,” Michael Niyitegeka Vice Chairman ICT Association of Uganda who will be the moderator at the event said.
