UNBS in partnership with Vivo Energy has held a regional fuel awareness campaign for customers to drive awareness on fuel quality and quantity.
The regional consumer awareness campaign was held in Gulu with sample testing done at Shell Gulu, in the presence of UNBS Executive Director, Dr. Ben Manyindo, Vivo Energy Quality manager Joseph Adrapi and local leaders including MPs.
Speaking during the awareness campaign Work shop, UNBS Executive Director Dr Ben Manyindo vowed to arrest all dealers in fuel adulteration, saying the practice puts the lives of users at risk.
Fuel adulteration is a common practice in Uganda. It involves mixing of Kerosene to Petrol or Diesel to sell as pure petrol or diesel. The perpetrators of this illegal act are mainly incentivized by the additional margin they would make.
Vivo Energy, the company that distributes and markets Shell branded fuels and lubricants now conducts random tests at all Shell Service Stations.
The quality Manager Joseph Adrapi noted they ensure that at every loading point the product is tested and certified before loading and certificates of quality are sent to the next point of receipt. Upon arrival of the truck, the product is re-tested at the modern fuel testing lab and compared with the certificate at loading point before the product is received.
The participants in Gulu were sensitized on what customers should look out for while at the pump and UNBS fuel markings at the boarder points among others.
