Vipers stretched their lead on the Uganda Premier League (UPL) log with a 1-0 victory over Victoria University yesterday at Buikwe. In a closely competitive encounter, center back Musa Malunda scored for the hosts in the second half to earn them their 9th victory of the campaign.
Vipers have now stretched their lead at the table with a 5 point difference between them and second placed Kampala Capital City (KCC). The unbeaten Vipers now stand at 29 points while the defending champions KCC have 24 points all from 11 matches.
Elsewhere at the Ssaza grounds in Mityana, SC Villa were denied the chance to climb to the second spot after Bombo based side Simba FC held them to a one-all draw. Even without their head coach Haruna Kebba who is off for international duty with the Sand Cranes, Simba managed to pick a point.
The industrious and on-form striker Karim Ndugwa gave the hosts an early lead before the game had a long deadlock of fruitless action until Alex Witaba broke the hearts of the Villa fans with a brilliant strike 10 minutes to the end of the game.
While Karim Ndugwa extended his personal tally to 8 goals, Villa remained 3rd on the table with 23 points while the Army side dropped to 11th despite the draw. This followed Sadolin Paint’s win over Lweza.
