Vipers Sports Club return home to Nakivubo War Memorial stadium on Friday to host league leaders KCCA FC with a target to shorten the six point gap between the two sides.
The Kitende based club who host their home games at the heart of Kampala come into today’s tie on the back of a 1-0 victory over Entebbe road rivals Lweza FC, thanks to Erisa Ssekisambu’s efforts.
On the other hand, the Kasasiro boys come into the fixture with their heads held high after thumping arch rivals Express FC 3-1 on Tuesday to go six points clear of SC Villa, Vipers and Soana FC all tied on a dozen points, with only goal differences separating them.
The tie will also be a show of familiar faces as Vipers’ head coach Abdullah Mubiru and his assistant George ‘Best’ Nsimbe return to haunt their former bosses who they guided to two league titles in 2012/13 and 2013/14.
“All the games we have won this season, we have done so as a team and that’s what we intend to do. If we play as a team, then we will win the game,” KCCA’s holding midfielder Ivan Ntege noted during a pre-match press conference.
The two sides shared the spoils in both games last season with the yellow boys holding the Venoms to a two-all draw during their visit to Buikwe before a goalless draw in the reverse fixture.
Speaking at the same press conference, KCCA’s assistant coach Morley Byekwaso revealed that they will deploy the same tactics that broke down the Red Eagles on Tuesday. “We broke down Express early in the first half to avoid last minute upsets. It’s the same approach we are targeting in our next match and luckily enough, we have all the players that executed the Express mission available for selection,” Morley said.
Chances are also high that Vipers’ Hassan Wasswa, strikers Tony Odur and William Wadri could be selected to faceoff with their former bosses as well as Vincent Kayizzi for the Lugogo based side.
