Two time league champions Vipers Sports Club recovered from last week’s defeat to Express FC (1-0) to pip Lweza Football Club by 1-0 in the Entebbe road derby on Tuesday evening.

Striker Erisa Ssekisambu scored just a minute after the half hour mark to give the ‘Venoms’ a halftime lead which eventually turned out to be the match winner in a closely contested fixture at the Muteesa II Memorial Stadium, Wankulukuku.

Surely there will be some feel of relief for head coach Abdullah Mubiru after yesterday’s victory as his side rose to 3rd place with 12 points from seven matches.

Elsewhere, Sports Club Villa shared the spoils with Soana Football Club in a one-all draw in a game played at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole on the same evening. Sam Ssimbwa’s side didn’t find it very hard to break through the Jogoos’ tight defence with Frank Kalanda notching them in front after only twelve minutes, a lead they held on to until halftime.

Coach Deo Sserwada’s men came back much more organised after recess and leveled matters just two minutes into the second half with Vitalis Tabu on target. Soana have now become the first and only team to break through Villa’s defence after six opening league fixtures.

Villa are still second on the 16-team log with 12 points while Soana dropped to fourth place with a similar number of points but a goal difference separates them along with a third placed Vipers.

At Bugembe Stadium, the Jinja derby between Kirinya Jinja SS and Bul FC ended in a goalless draw as the former continue to search for a maiden victory in the topflight.
