Former SC Villa star Erisa Ssekisambu and former KCCA player William Wadri scored as Vipers SC pipped SC Villa 2-1 at Namboole Stadium to go top of the Azam Uganda Premier League table.
The Jogoos started off as the sharper side in the first twenty minutes of the game with striker Umar Kasumba hitting the post in the 9th minute.
With Ssekisambu playing against his former side, he was always going to be the major threat for Villa’s defence, no wonder he came close in the 16th minute of the game.
In the 25th minute, Ssekisambu was on target as he put the title holders in front after a beautiful inter-play that involved right back Nicholas Wadada and the ever on form Farouk Miya.
With Vipers taking charge of the first half, Villa’s head Coach Antonio Flores made two substitutions after recess with goalkeeper Odong coming off for Samson Kirya while Robert Achema replaced Martin Kizza.
However, the changes did not save Villa as William Wadri punished them two minutes into the second half to double the lead for the visitors.
As always the Blues fought back but Kamanzi’s strike after 60 minutes wasn’t enough to salvage a point for the hosts as it ended 2-1 with the goal scorer missing another few chances.
The victory sends Vipers top of the summit at 14 points ahead of KCCA with a 3 point difference.
The Kasasiro Boys play Police FC today and only a win can help them reclaim their top spot at the table.
